Some of these people are famous, some aren't. But I would like to meet them anyway. Also, by "meet" I don't mean just shake hands. I mean have a meal, a conversation, an afternoon with them. So some of the people whose autographs I have and who I have met for a moment are on this list.
Thirteen Living People I Would Like to Meet
1) Either of these two women who saved another woman from being raped. If women everywhere looked out for each other as these two women did the world would be a much nice place.
2) Joss Whedon--I am a Buffy/Angel/Firefly fan. But more than that, I like the way he thinks and the way he writes.
3) My husband's birth mother--I don't know if my husband could handle meeting her, but I'd like to. I'd like to tell her that her son is a wonderful man.
4) My eventual child's birth mother. I hope that someday someone will have better words than "thank you" to express the gratitude I will feel.
5) Gloria Stienem. I would like to shake her hand and thank her for all she did for me, my nieces, and all the women who will come after us. Then I would like to listen to all her war stories.
6) Paul McCartney. I have been a Beatles fan since I was four years old. He has always been my favorite.
7) My favorite authors Mercedes Lackey/ Laurell K. Hamilton/ Nora Roberts/ and J. K. Rowling
8) Quentin Tarrentino -- He seems so cool and so weird. I think I'd love to hang out with him--and geek out about his movies the way he geeks out about other movies.
9) Stephen Sondheim - I am a broadway baby, and this man WROTE so many of my favorites.
10) Andrew Lloyd Webber-- Yes, I know. His music is cheesy, some of his musicals are cringe-worthy, but he revitalized Broadway. Anyway we share a birthday.
11) Judy Blume - I actually met her when I worked in children's publishing. I wish though, that I could tell her that I am who I am because of her and the stories she wrote. I remember reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and suddenly I understood why my mom spent so much time looking at these book things. I was transported into the story. She gave me a love of reading that has helped me through my whole life--and I owe her such a debt for that.
12) Jim Steinman - I met him too, twice. But I want to sit and hang out with this man who wrote music that has rocked me to the core of my being. When I heard his song "Safe Sex" I was driving. I had to pull over and cry because it felt like someone reached into my soul and took out my words. No other songwriter has ever created something like that--except him with other songs.
13) Steven Spielberg - He's my hero. When I was little I wanted to be like him. Now I can't direct movies, but I still find him admirable. I love his storytelling and whenever it is I finish a screenplay I would love to have him direct it or dissect it. People say that you can't be a good man and be successful--Somehow he manages.
Who would you like to meet?
I'd love to meet Joss Whedon, too! LOVE Buffy/Angel/Firefly :)

Judy Blume....I loved her books when I was young!!! I wish my class loved to read like I did...they just don't see the point! To many other things to do!
Great list! Happy TT!

The two ladies, and Whedon are all I would care to dine with. Oh and Tarrentino because he's a bonafide foot freak.
My Thursday Thirteen #35 13 Old Wives Tales Edition is up. Stop by if you get a chance.

Great idea, great list! I love Sir Paul, too, and have decided that's why I don't want to meet him. He couldn't possibly live up to four decades + of fantasy. I'd like to meet Gloria Steinem again. I met her at a book signing about 10 years ago but when she finally got around to me, I clammed up and was unable to say any of the things I wanted to tell her, thank her for. My 10th TT, all about TV, is now up.

Terrific post! I'd like to address #4 because I was adopted as a baby and wish I could say 'thank you' to my birth mother for making a tough, but selfless decision to give me to someone who could look after me better than she, a single teenager, could.

Very cool list. I love Paul as a Beatle and in Wings. I read all the Judy Blume my library had in elementary school. You brought back memories with that one.
Happy TT day. My list is up on 13 reasons spring is in the air.

I am so with you on the Judy Blume thing. It's amazing to me how much books can help you get a better understanding of yourself, especially at that age. I can't imagine ever being able to create a book like that.

Great list.
I have to think about who I'd like to meet. If I can choose dead people I'd like to meet Jim Hensen.

I loved Judy Bloom growing up. I think I read everything she ever wrote. I'd also love to meet Stephen King. Just to sit down and chat for a bit. Talk about writing and how much I admire him. Great list! Happy TT and thanks for stopping by my site today. :)

What an interesting list. I'm not sure who I'd like to meet - I've never really thought about it. Nice way to make someone think.

I'm not that into meeting stars or famous people, but I would like to meet Stephen King.

It's always really interesting to hear other's lists on this topic, especially when they are being real and not just saying Jesus and George Bush.
Really interesting list!
One of my dudes is dead but I would love to have a chat with him somehow. Joseph Smith. The Mormon stuff really messed with my mind and I'd like to ask him if it was all bullshit or if he really did talk to God like I was taught to believe for so long.
Another person is a Holocaust survivor. I haven't yet met one personally and I would like to hear the account first hand before there are no people to tell it first hand.
Sorry for being Debbie Downer! Didn't mean to drop by and drop a serious bomb. heh.
