I have been dubbing my years but 2008 kinda defied dubbing. I guess I could dub it "The Year Of Learning" but that is every year. However 2008 was the year I set out to learn things. I felt ignorant, and I find willful ignorance intolerable. (One of the many reasons I didn't like Sarah Palin.)
I set out to learn. I set out to push the boundaries of my knowledge and what do you know...I have.
I have learned:
About Physics. There is this fascinating professor who has had his classes taped in ITunes U. I watched them, asked questions of the people around me who knew physics and the professor via email. I like it. I will be learning more.
How to Knit. I am the proud maker of 2 and 3/4 scarves. I start a hat next. I found I truly enjoy knitting.
How to Flambe. I have been a pyrophobe. When I went to college it frightened me to light a match. Now I set things on fire in my kitchen.
That I like memoirs. I read 101 books this year, and I really enjoyed the memoirs.
That I am both not as young as I used to be, but not yet old. I haven't enjoyed this lesson.
Now what do I want to learn in 2009?
I want to start learning Mandarin.
I want to learn more new recipes. My goal is to try 2 new recipes a month.
I want to learn how to be better friends to my friends who have children. I am reconnecting with so many of my older friends via facebook--I don't want to just think "well they are parents" and not find the common ground we had when we both weren't parents.
I want to learn how to meet people again.
I want to learn how to keep stuff for myself instead of giving all my energy away.
I want to learn Tai Chi
I want to LIVE in 2009, not just exist in it.
I'll see how I do.
sounds like a plan.
just started knitting too and find it very meditative. still not done the 1st scarf yet though...
